Please find below a suggested itinerary. For a personalized [individual or group] tour click here.

Day 1- Arrive Guatemala City-private transfer to Antigua, founded in 1543. Stop at a typical Guatemala restaurant for snacks or meal. Antigua, with its majestic volcanoes and Maya culture is considered to be the most beautiful Spanish Colonial city in Latin America. In 1979 the city was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is a safe, clean, and romantic town, ideal for a Honeymoon or vacation trip. Overnight in Antigua.

Day 2- Antigua- After breakfast, a walking tour of Antigua with private bilingual guide. Afternoon on your own. Enjoy the courtyards and floral displays, or watch the people at the Plaza Mayor. Overnight in Antigua.

Day 3- Chichicastenango- [The market is open Thursdays and Sundays only]. Early transfer to ”Chichi.” This market is famous for its handicraft and for the religious activity at Santo Tomas Church where current Maya descendants worship with intense devotion. You will find a variety of textiles, woodwork, and masks. Natives dressed in their local attires come from the neighboring towns to sell or barter their products. Late afternoon drive to and overnight in Lake Atitlan.

Day 4- Lake Atitlan- For the Maya who still live in the area, this is the birthplace of creation. Numerous villages surround the lake. A visit to Santiago Atitlan by boat will take the visitor to admire the embroidered clothing and appreciate the mixture of Maximon, Evangelical, and Catholic beliefs. Overnight in Antigua or in Guatemala City.

Day 5- Tikal- Early morning transfer to the airport in Guatemala for a flight to the archeological site of Tikal for a full day private guided tour. Tikal represents the architectural creativity of the Maya people. It is a national park, where the native flora and fauna still flourish relatively undisturbed and a place where about 30 plus powerful rulers developed roads, managed 50,000 to 100,000 inhabitants, and excelled in astronomy, ceramic, agriculture, and the paintings that decorate their buildings. Overnight in Tikal/Flores area. Bring your binoculars.

Day 6- Tikal- A chance to continue visiting the different structures: The Great Plaza, Temple I, II, and the North Acroplis. Time for photography and to transport yourself in the Maya World civilization. Evening flight to Guatemala. Overnight.

Day 7-8- Guatemala City- Founded in 1776, the city houses two great cultural centers: the National Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology and the Museo Popul Vuh. A tour of the Cathedral Metropolitana built in 1782, the Mercado Central, and the Palacio Nacional de Cultura will give you a good idea of the traditional and historical importance of Guatemala.

Enjoy an extended stay, or continue to your next adventure / cultural / educational destination with MILA Tours [Peru? Ecuador/Galapagos?Argentina?] or private transfer to the airport for your flight back home.
