Day
1-
Start in Guadalajara, home of the mariachi and Mexico’s second
largest city. In Plaza Tapatia you will find sculptures and
shops. The Cultural Cabañas Institute houses famous paintings
by Orozco. Overnight in Guadalajara.
Day
2- Private tour to Tlaquepaque Handcraft village, an artisan
colonial town with outdoor cafes, parks, native crafts, good leather
products, and great cuisine with live music. Take time to admire
the architecture, local jewelers, and stone carvers. Overnight
in Guadalajara.
Day
3- To Chapala/Uruapan. Private transfer to Lake Chapala,Mexico’s
largest lake.You will take a boat to the fisherman village of Ajijic,
an artist’s retreat where you will find woodwork, embroideries,
and paintings. Enjoy lunch at the Posada. Continue to Uruapanin
Michoacan. Overnight in Michoacan.
Day
4- In Uruapan-visit the San Franciscan Church and the Museum
of Folk Arts. Continue to the Eduardo Ruiz National Park. Transfer
– 50 miles – to Lake Patzcuaro and visit the House of
Eleven Patios, a former convent, now a craft center. Visit
the Island ofJ anitzio where the inhabitants live very much the
way they have for centuries. Overnight in Posada de Don Vasco, or
equivalent.
Day
5- Private transfer – 38 miles - to the Colonial
City of Morelia, Michoacan. Founded in 1541, this town flourishes
with folk arts and crafts. See the mile-long aqueduct built by the
Spaniards. Enjoy a couple of hours at the Michoacan Museum, located
in a palace from the 18th century. Visit the Cathedral, the Main
Square, and the Casa de Artesanias. Overnight in Morelia.
Day
6- Today you visit the old silver mining town of Guanajuato
established in 1559. The cobblestone city streets have wonderful
architecture. Visit the Teatro Juarez, the museum of Don Quixote,
the Iglesia de San Cayetano, and the Alhondiga de Granaditas. You
can stay days in Guanajuato or continue tonight to Querataro
Day
7- Queretarois a baroque city where streets and plazas
are open for pedestrians only. The many churches and private residences
are in the baroque style. At the Lapidario de Queretaro you can
purchase opals from the La Catalina mine as well as turquoise, topaz,
and lapi lazuli. Evening transfer to Mexico City or to your next
destination.
Enjoy an extended
stay and visit the many other Colonial Cities in Mexico: San Miguel
Allende, Oaxaca, Merida. Or go north to San Luis and Zacatecas,
or continue to your next adventure / cultural / educational destination

to the airport for your flight back home.
