Hemingway’s Peruvian Adventure and Seminar
11 – 19 AUGUST 2006

In August 2006, Ernest Hemingway Travel Destinations is hosting a tour and seminar program to commemorate the 50 years since the author's visit to northern Peru's Cabo Blanco, an exclusive area for fishing Marlin. We will journey to Cabo Blanco and recall when Hemingway, with a film crew on board his boat the Pilar, sought to catch a giant Marlin to use as footage for the upcoming film, “The Old Man and the Sea.” During the visit and our seminar, we will explore the importance of that novella in his artistic appreciation and we will examine the role of Spanish culture in his life and work. The tour will also introduce the ancient Peruvian cultures that produced remarkable civilizations at the same time as the early Egyptians, Chinese and Greeks. We will concentrate on the Inca civilization in our visit to Cusco, Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley. August is a good travel month to this region, temperatures are comfortable and there is little rain.
