PARIS: Hemingway’s Moveable Feast

This specially designed Ernest Hemingway Travel Destinations program explores Hemingway’s life-long love affair with France in a travel program focusing on Paris with two exciting tour extension options at the end. The Paris tour will reference Hemingway biographies, magazine articles and novels including “The Sun Also Rises” and “A Moveable Feast.”

 

Wednesday, 02 July 2008: Paris
11:30 AM – Program officially starts in the tour hotel lobby.
12:00 PM – Join the Hemingway tour leader for lunch.
Afternoon private bus tour of Paris including new Shakespeare and Company bookstore and Cathedral of Notre Dame. Overnight Hotel Lutetia or similar. (Evening Reception)

Thursday, 03 July: Paris
Transfer approximately one mile to St. Louis Island (the site of Three Mountains Press) to walk Hemingway’s own route to his first home on Rue du Cardinal Lemoine in the area of Place de la Contrescarpe. We then follow the old Roman street of Rue Mouffetard and enjoy its festive market. We continue onto the Boulevard du Montparnasse and pass the Statue of Marshall Ney. Visit the La Closerie des Lilas (a Hemingway favorite) for lunch.

This afternoon we’ll explore this “left bank” Montparnasse area and visit Hemingway sites including his second home, the restaurant La Coupole, cafes like La Rotonde, Le Select, and Café du Dome and bar hangouts like the Dingo and Falstaff. (B,L)

Friday, 04 July: Paris
Visit to the Palais de Luxembourg Gardens for an morning stroll and visit to original site of Shakespeare and Company Bookshop, Sylvia Beach’s apartment, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Home and Ernest and Pauline’s Home. We’ll use the time around lunch to walk the St. Germaine area pointing out the Café de Flore, Cafe Deux Magots, and the St. Germaine des Pres Church.
Group Lunch at Brasserie Lipp

Afternoon visit to the Right Bank starting at Café de la Paix on Place de l’Opera and including the Hemingway Bar at the Ritz Hotel and Harry’s New York Bar.
Fourth of July Celebration Dinner. (B,L,D)

Saturday, 05 July:Paris
Check out of hotel for transfer to airport for flight home or further travel. (B)
