Day
1- Arrive in Belize city. Arrive in Belize Int’l
Airport. After immigration and customs, a MILA’s representative
will meet you and provide a private transfer to the western Belize. On
the way, stop at the Belize Zoo home to animals only found in the
country. Continue towards Belmopan[the capital] and drive south
7 miles to check into the exclusive Jaguar Paw Resort on the Cave’s
Branch River, surrounded by jungle, river, and caves.
Day
2- Belize District. From the resort, walk with your
inner tube to the river and experience the tubing excursion through
under-world caves, sacred to the Maya civilization: crystal clear
water, columns of stalactites, and “beautiful” darkness! Enjoy
your meals and overnight at Jaguar Paw.
Day
3- Caracol, settled in 330BC, is the most spectacular Maya
site in Belize. The road runs through the rainforest with wonderful
views over mountains and river valleys. Caracol controlled
the rainforest including Tikal(across the border in Guatemala) and
both are considered archaeological and natural reserves. Overnight
at Five Sisters Lodge or equivalent.
Day
4- Xunantunich. Experience crossing the Mopan River on
a hand-winched ferry. This site was a major ceremonial area. Climbing
El Castillo [pyramid A-60 provides a 360 degree panorama over Guatemala
and Mopan River and transports you into an area of Maya warlords’
power and architectural developments. Overnight at Five Sisters
Lodge.
Day
5-8- Optional activities include 4 days in San Pedro, Ambergris
Caye or in South Water Caye. In the San Pedro area there are
excellent properties, all on the beach area with daily scuba activities. A
variety of restaurants, shops, internet cafes, just walking from
place to place, or taking a boat-taxi to visit other facilities
north of San Pedro, will create a good time to spend in this part
of Belize.
However, if
you prefer a more private program, like almost having your own island,
spend 4,5, or 7 days at the family owned Blue Marlin Lodge, an all
inclusive facility ideal for a honeymoon or family vacation, in
South Water Caye. Here you can walk and swim to the crest of
the barrier reef. This place is fully equipped for scuba divers.
Enjoy an extended stay, or continue to your next adventure / cultural
/ educational destination with MILA Tours[Guatemala? Ecuador/Galapagos?Honduras?]
or private transfer to the airport for your flight back home.
The land portion for
the suggested itinerary starts at US $180.00 per day per person.
